1935

May 16

A new constitution reiforces the authority of the Executive Branch of  Government and warrants a new mandate to President Vincent for five years.

1938

May 18

Athletic festivities at  the Champs-de-Mars take place in Port-au-Prince to celebrate the 135th anniversary of the Haitian flag.

1939-1940  

The Haitian National Library, Bibliotheque Nationale d’Haiti is organized with the financial contribution of 116 people.

1941

April 14

            Elie Lescot is elected President for a     
            five-year term.

May 15

           President Stenio Vincent’s term is ended.  
             Elie Lescot takes office as President of Haiti.

1944

May 7

The Cathedral of Cap-Haitien, on which restoration work took one hundred years, is consecrated.

May 14

The Art Center (Centre d’Art) of Haiti is founded.  It exhibits the most important Haitian art works.

1946

President Lescot resigns.  An Executive Military Committee is created before appointing Dumarsais Estime as President of the Republic of Haiti.

1948

February 16

The Regie du Tabac et des Allumettes, a government-owned tobacco company is founded.

1949

December 8

Port-au-Prince celebrates two hundred years of its existence. The Exposition du Bi-Centennaire, Bicentennial Exposition is inaugurated.

1950

May 10

President Estime relinquishes the Executive Seat and is replaced by a provisional government.

October 8

Presidential and legislative elections are held, and for the first time, the President of Haiti is elected directly by the people and by the Delegates and Senators. Colonel Paul E.Magloire wins the elections.

December 6

            Paul Eugene Magloire is sworn in as President of Haiti.

1951

President Paul E. Magloire of Haiti meets with President Rafael Leonidas Trujillo, President of the Dominican Republic, for diplomatic talks.

The Haitian Institute of Statistics ( Institut Haitien de Statistique) and the Haitian Institute of Farming and Industrial Credit (Institut Haitien de Credit Agricole et Industriel) are established by the government. 

1953

May 31

The first Haitian bishop, Father Remy Augustin is consecrated at the Cathedral of Port-au-Prince.

1954

January 1-4

The 50th anniversary of Independence of Haiti is celebrated in Gonaives and monuments for the Heroes of Independence are inaugurated in Port-au-Prince.

June 21-July 13

President Magloire travels to Cuba, Puerto-Rico, Nicaragua and Panama.

1955

January 26- February 17

President Magloire and his wife travel to the United States of America, Canada, and Jamaica.

March 3 to 5

Richard Nixon, Vice President of the United States, and his wife, visit Haiti.

1956

President Paul E. Magloire relinquishes the Executives Seat to the President of the Supreme Court, Nemours Pierre-Louis, who becomes the Provisional President of Haiti.
