1915

July 28

Three thousand U.S.Marines led by Admiral Caperton of the cruiser “George Washington” arrive in Port-au-Prince.  Through this action, backed by  U.S. President Woodrow Wilson, Haiti comes under the military occupation of the United States of America.

  August 12

The Senator Sudre Dartiguenave is elected President by the Constituent Assembly for a term of seven years.

1919

April 12

The Haitian government undertakes a monetary reform with the National Bank of Haiti.

October 31-November 1

Charlemagne Peralte, the leader of the guerilla troop, Cacos, who stood against the United States occupation, is captured and executed.

1920

Leon Laleau publishes his first compilations of poems, A Voix Basse

1921

January 24

President Dartiguenave addresses President Warren G. Harding, of the United-States, and sets forth the needs of the Haitian people.

  April 12

            President Harding responds to President Dartiguenave.

 1922

April 10

Louis Borno is elected President of Haiti for four years by the State Council.

May 15

President Dartiguenave’s term is ended.

Louis Borno is sworn in as President of Haiti.

December 28

The Agricultural School of Haiti, Ecole Centrale d’Agriculture in Damien is created to educate future Haitian agronomists.

1926

Louis Borno is re-elected President by the State Council, and makes a diplomatic trip to the United States.

Leon Laleau publishes his second compilation of poems, La Fleche au Coeur.

1928

Jean Price-Mars publishes his highly acclaimed novel, “So Spoke The Uncle,” (Ainsi Parla l’Oncle).

Leon Laleau publishes two more compilations of poems, Le Rayon des jupes and Abreviations.

1929

January 21

An agreement on the borders between Haiti and the Dominican Republic is signed.

1930

February 28

The Forbes Commission sent by President Hoover of the United States arrives in Haiti to investigate the political situation of the country.

April 21

Eugene Roy is designated as temporary President of the Republic by a state decree.

November 18

Senator Stenio Vincent is elected President of the Republic  of Haiti for six years.

December 10

Fietta, the first Apostic Nuncio of the Vatican to Haiti, arrives in Port-au-Prince.

1931

Jacques Roumain publishes his acclaimed novel, Gouverneurs de la Rosee.

August 5

The Haitian and United States of America governments agree on the concession of the Offices of Public Works, Health, Agriculture and Education to the Haitian government.

1932

December 15, 16, 17

Archbishop joseph Legouaze commemorates the fiftieth anniversary of the dedication of Port-au-Prince to the Virgin Mary, Our Lady of Perpetual Help.

1933  

August 7

The Haitian and United States governments sign an agreement on the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Haiti and the cessation of the U.S. occupation.

October 18

Presidents Vincent of Haiti and Trujillo of the Dominican Republic meet for diplomatic talks at Ouanaminthe, a city located in the northeastern region of Haiti, very close to the Frontier of Haiti and the Dominican Republic.

1934

July 5

President Franklin D. Roosevelt of the United States visits Cap-Haitien.

August 14

The United States occupation of Haiti ends and the U.S. Marines leave Haiti.

August 21

The Haitian flag is unfurled at the Casernes Dessalines, where it was lowered in 1915, on the day of the United States occupation.
