is part of a longer history of Haiti (which I do not have) from the 1825
journal: American Missionary Register. The author's name is not given.
Last Days of the Divided Haiti and the Suicide of Henry
Christophe This is an interesting 1820 account
from the Baltimore Niles' Weekly Register which first has a history of the
divided Haytis (as it is spelled), and then later in the same edition, an
announment of the rising against Christophe and his suicide.
Marie-Louise Christophe A 63
page chapter on the life of Marie-Louise Christophe in the book CARIB
QUEENS by Charles E. Waterman, 1935
1816 visit of Quaker missionary, Stephen Grellet. Grellet
thought highly of President Petion, and holds rather typical views of the
"primitive" Haitian people. His account include a description of a
devastating hurrican in 1816.
An American makes a Plea for the U.S. to
Recognize Haiti. This
unsigned 1825 piece from an American newspaper is an intelligent and
generous celebration of Haiti and Haitians. This plea for recognition of
Haiti preceeds the actual 1862 recognition by 39 years!
