  • 1959, Aug. 12-13. Cuban invasion. Heinl, p. 600.
  • 1963, July 14 Barbot burned out of cane field and killed. He only lasted 3 months. (Dieterrich and Burt)
  • 1963, Sept 25. Juan Bosch overthrown. Army + many others feared his democratic leftism. (D and B)
  • 1963, Aug/Sept. Cantave "invasion" Heinl, p. 637. Is this the same one as the Sept. 25, 1963 of D and B? see Ferguson--Papa D--p. 47 ff. General Leon Cantave led several attacks across DR border So, this seems to be one set.
  • 1964, June/July. 2 priests led them.
  • 1964, Aug. 5. Jeune Haiti. Heinl, p. 639-640.
  • 1968/69/70 Exile-supported Heinl, p. 657-659.
  • Invasions from the D.R. were terrible flops. Disunity and petty bickering were the causes. (Plus the tough terrain.)
  • 1963 totals for maintaining armed forces was about 50% of national budget, about $15 million.
